DIY ruler growth chart
We made this DIY ruler growth chart.
Why?
…to keep track of our height so we can go on all the rides at that theme park place of course!
Height measuring started in earnest when we first saw the ads….
I told the little guy,
You have to be a certain height to go on all the rides.
To get to that height,
you need to eat…
all the colours of the rainbow on your plate,
Especially green!
We’d been measuring our height on the wall and someone rubbed all those years of measuring off with the nifty a while back,
so I decided to make one that looked cool and kept all our precious info safe from the sporadic cleaner! (that would be me)
I wanted to make one of these charts ever since I pinned this one on my pinterest board.
DIY RULER GROWTH CHART
Plywood cut to 250mm x 2604mm high (lightly sanded at the edges and front and back)
I x ruler artwork printed onto easy dot sticker material (leave me a comment below and I’ll email you the pdf)
NB: My artwork starts 4 inches from the floor.
About 6 months ago I got the big guy to cut this wood and sand the edges.
We tested that a removeable sticker material would stay on the wood,
for months….
Yep….
It stays on!
Last week, I made the artwork for the ruler and got it printed onto an easy dot sticker material.
I positioned the artwork wood in the middle of the wood and wrapped it around, like a present.
The sticker material has tiny dots in it so it is super easy to stick on and can be easily removed if you make a mistake.
Then we hung it with some 3M fasteners, positioned above the skirting board (I designed it to fit perfectly against our existing door frame)
I added a spider at the height required to go on all the rides. (130cm or 4.26ft)
We added our new measurements to the ruler.
Even our dog Murphs!
There were,
Lots of laughs about being the tallest…
And cheating by standing on tippy toes (me included)
I love the look of this chart,
it’s our own memory stick…
and it fits perfectly next to the Urbio and accentuates the big guys Living the dream wall we made.
Before you know it,
we’ll be off to that park…
because we ate all the colours of the rainbow and grew to the magic number.
I’m going to love that smile on all our faces,
when we light up the park!
(I’m loving this song by Coldplay, “A Sky full of Stars” at the moment… it reminds me of one of my favourites, Tom
and,
it’s a sign… that we all light up the park!)
I think we will be measuring our height, daily, for a while!

You can download the pdf of the ruler growth chart below, print it out at a printer near you and either stick on, or wrap around a piece of ply wood like I did here.

This is gorgeous. We’ve been doing the door jam marking but I’m worried we need to pull it out when we renovate, so this is the perfect solution x
You can always take a note of the markings if you ever leave or try this idea. I love this as it makes your own memory stick of milestones part of your decor.
