Working full time, as a mum, you can get a bit guilty about not spending enough time doing fun things with your kids. I’ve decided to do more cool stuff with my son, this is one of them we do together and there’s no cooking on the stove, so it’s not hot when you mix it. I found the original recipe here.
My guy wanted playdough in lots of colours so I came up with a quick way to do this with the least mess, ie: no food colouring on your hands and of course he had to be able to mix, (it’s one of the most important things when we cook… can I mix yet?)
Recipe:
2 cups plain flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon of cooking oil
2 drops of food colouring
Firstly we added all the salt and flour together. Then divided the mix into 4 bowls evenly (3/4 cup in each bowl).
Then we added the oil to our bowls (1 teaspoon in each bowl).
We then divided the water into 4 (1/4 cup each) and added the drops of colour to our water.
Then I got some help from little hands and started making up all the colours, adding some of the water at a time to get the consistency we liked. We added more flour like a “pizza maker” if we needed a better consistency at the end.
Voila!… Coloured playdough
Then we mashed them altogether..
Made a cake…
The best fun was when we made it into “camouflage” playdough, hid some soldiers inside and then tried to find them, we did it over and over again. It was so much fun, we will make it again. This lasted in the fridge for a few weeks in a snap lock bag. If it gets gloopy just add some more flour or hard, just add some more water. We might even try adding glitter or sand next time. That was a good couple of hours worth of fun, it’s gonna be our new rainy day thing to do.
Live with love,
